In the past alpine huts were shelters for alpine dairymen, today they are the epitome of deceleration and enjoyment, surrounded by lush green alpine pastures, peaceful grazing livestock and not infrequently magnificent mountain panoramas.
In the SalzburgerLand, there are still more than 100 managed alpine huts today that invite you to take a break in the alpine summer ("Almsommer") with homemade, regional delicacies from our own agriculture, homemade cheese and bread specialities and oven-fresh pastries. Among the classics are dishes such as "Brettljause", "Kasnocken", soups or sweet "Kaiserschmarrn". Selected huts also offer meatless specialities and vegan delicacies. On many alpine pastures, people are still making their own cheese and the hosts are happy to look over their shoulders.
In winter, ski huts are in great demand as a culinary stopover. This led to experienced hut owners and "ski hood chefs" along the ski slopes in the SalzburgerLand.
The "Salzburg schmeckt” (Salzburg tastes good) platform also provides information about the culinary diversity of the SalzburgerLand and brings producers and consumers together under the motto "Best food from Salzburg agriculture".
