Open-air museum 7 mills in Pfarrwerfen an der Salzach
Arte, cultura e storiaPongau
In Pfarrwerfen, 7 consecutive mills at relatively short distances could be saved from imminent decay and be placed under monument protection. This was done with the help of the parish Pfarrwerfen, the province of Salzburg, the European Union (Objective 5 b key project) and the newly founded cultural and museum association Pfarrwerfen. These mill buildings on the slope of the Aberg by the stream Mühlbachl directly in the town centre date back to the 18th century. They have only 1 room ("Gmachmühlen") and contributed to the self-sufficiency of the rural population for centuries. Already in the Middle Ages water mills are said to have been operated here at the Mühlbachl. The preserved mills, which can be walked on, can be experienced on an adventure trail starting from the square in front of the municipal office with interesting facts about mill technology, grain cultivation and varieties, processing in the region and other things. This open-air experience is rounded off with grinding demonstrations in the foam mill, a mill rally as well as a water playground and slope slide for children. In this way, this Pfarrwerfen landmark is to be preserved for future generations as a documentation of the working methods and customs of past times.
