Further informations

Hiking leisurely from mountain pasture to mountain pasture and enjoy nature. This is what alpine hiking in Austria is all about: allowing yourself a leisurely pace, enjoying impressive landscapes, taking in the varied views and the silence of the world of mountains and lakes in Salzburg with every breath. Quasi at the roadside, rustic alpine huts invite you to a cosy stop and of course for a hearty snack with "Brettljause" and buttermilk. You can also spend the night in a hut or more comfortably in the valley with the Salzburg hosts.
You can hike through the Salzburg pastures individually or join a guided group.

The so called "Salzburger Almenweg" connects all settlements of the Pongau with each other for a total of 350 km, from where an entrance is possible. This long-distance hiking trail consists of 31 stages and is uniformly signposted with the distinctive sign of the blue gentian. While the longest stage is 21 km or about 9 hours, the shortest 5 km or about 90 minutes. 90% of the "Almenweg" is above 1,000 metres above sea level, where activity is particularly healthy according to a study. It comprises 120 managed alpine huts, to which many more are added on the numerous access paths.
Some places also offer special packages for long-distance hikers.
