Zacchi Refuge

The Luigi Zacchi Refuge is located in the municipality of Tarvisio (Ud) under the western wall of the Ponza Grande, in the woods inside the amphitheatre formed by the Ponze, Veunza and Mangart, which enclose the protected area of the beautiful Fusine Park. The Refuge has 20 beds in 3 rooms, a sleeping bag sheet is required for overnight stays.
It can be reached from Lake Superior of Fusine by following the CAI 512 path, about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The new facility replaces the previous shelter dating back to 1932 and dedicated in 1949 to Luigi Zacchi, Colonel of the Alpini Corps.
It is a support point for climbing up the Ponze mountain ranges, the northern wall of the Veunza and the Piccolo Mangart of Coritenza; from here you can make crossings to the Fratelli Nogara Bivouac Shelter by way of the Alpe Vecchia (3 h - E), the Ponza Grande with via ferrata (3 h - EE), the Porticina Pass and Lakes Fusine.
