The Giacomo di Brazzà Refuge is located on the Montasio Plateau. There are several ways to get there: from Sella Nevea up the road to Casere Parte di Mezzo, where the marked trail starts (40 minutes, T); from Pian di Qua following a comfortable mule track (2h 30, E); from Chiout Michel by the High Route of Val Raccolana (6 h, E). It is dedicated to Count Giacomo di Brazzà - Savorgnan, a famous naturalist and geographer, among the first mountaineers in Friuli to whom the Normale del Montasio is also dedicated. He died at age 31 from a disease contracted in Africa. The Di Brazzà Refuge is a very popular destination because it offers numerous possibilities for excursions, including to the Jof of Montasio by way of the Normale or Canalone Findegger and Mount Montasio. From here you can make the crossing to the Corsi Refuge by way of the Merlone alpine path or Scalini Pass; to the Suringar Bivouac Shelter (3 h, E) and the Stuparich Bivouac Shelter by way of the Amalia via ferrata; and the Grego Refuge by taking on the Normale at the Montasio Peak.
