Pellarini Refuge

The Pellarini Refuge is a typical wood and masonry structure located in Carnizza di Camporosso in the middle of a beautiful fir forest. This is a unique and majestic location dominated by rocks, screes, strips of snow and high looming walls; there is a severe mountain atmosphere. You can reach the Refuge by car from Valbruna and then following the CAI 616 path (1h30 - E). This is the most important refuge of the Italian Julian Alps for mountaineering, the base of numerous climbs to the peaks of the Jof Fuart Costiera and the nearby Carnizza di Riofreddo. The surrounding walls have borne witness to some of the most exciting mountaineering history on this side of the Alps. A small but beautiful cliff has been equipped with some climbing routes just a few minutes from the refuge, which was erected in 1924 in memory of Luigi Pellarini, a member of the Società Alpina delle Giulie, killed in action on Mount Chiesa in 1916. You can set off from the refuge to go climb the Gran Nabois (including the Normale), Riofreddo Peak, Torre delle Madri dei Camosci, the north-eastern edge of Vallone Peak, via Piussi, the Pinnacle and Jof Fuart; you can also cross over to the Rondini Peaks, Corsi Refuge, Cavalieri Peak and Mazzeni Bivouac Shelter. There is also a very beautiful crossing that leads to the Grego Refuge.
